Otho's Talk

Otho gave this talk about The Book of Mormon Testifies of Jesus Christ in Primary on May 15th, 2011. He wrote most of the talk himself, and did a great job. He is over half-way through the Book of Mormon this year, and I must say, is a great example of reading the scriptures. For an eight-year-old, he has such a strong testimony and understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This year, my goal is to read the Book of Mormon in one year. I read the Book of Mormon almost every night. The more I read, the more time I find to read the Book of Mormon.

One of the stories I read in the Book of Mormon was about the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's, or the people of Ammon. Ammon and his brothers went to the Lamanites to teach them about Jesus Christ. Thousands of Lamanites believed in Jesus Christ, and they were baptized. Even the king of the Lamanties was baptized.

The Lamanites liked to kill people, but the people that Ammon baptized didn't want to kill people anymore. They changed their names to Anti-Nephi-Lehi's. They made a covenant, or promise, to God that they wouldn't kill people anymore, and bury their weapons. In Alma, chapter 24 verse 19, it says, “And thus we see that they buried their weapons of peace, or they buried the weapons of war, for peace.”

The Anti-Nephi Lehi's decide they wanted to live with the Nephites so they could be safe.

This story helps me have a better testimony of Jesus. It makes me want to keep my covenants with Gods.

Another story when the Nephites were on the earth Jesus came down and taught the prophet Nephi to baptize people at eight years old. Jesus also taught to say, “I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost.” If we didn't have the Book of Mormon to teach us about baptism, we might not be baptized.

The Book of Mormon teaches us about Jesus Christ and how to repent and be like Him. When I read the Book of Mormon I feel good. It makes me want to be like Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is a true book. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
